Overview
Hilal ("we", "our", or "the app") is an Islamic companion application developed by Bypass Inc. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application.
Data We Collect
We collect and store only the minimum data necessary to provide our service:
- Location Data: Your location is used solely to calculate accurate prayer times and determine Qibla direction. Location data can be auto-detected or manually entered and is processed on-device.
- App Preferences: Your selected calculation method, Madhab preference, notification settings, and other in-app configurations are stored locally on your device.
- Worship Tracking Data: Daily prayer tracking, fasting records, Dhikr counts, and streak data are stored locally on your device.
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used exclusively to:
- Calculate accurate prayer times based on your location
- Send prayer, Suhoor, and Iftar notifications at the correct times
- Track your daily worship activities and maintain streaks
- Remember your preferred calculation method and Madhab settings
- Provide Ramadan-specific features (fasting tracker, daily countdowns)
Location Privacy
Hilal uses your location data exclusively for prayer time calculations and Qibla direction. We offer two modes:
- Auto-Detect: Uses your device's GPS to determine your current location. This data is processed on-device and is not transmitted to external servers.
- Manual Entry: You can manually set your city/location without granting GPS access.
Your location is never shared with third parties or used for advertising purposes.
Data Storage & Security
All your personal data, preferences, and worship tracking information are stored locally on your device. We do not maintain external databases of user information. If you use iCloud sync, your data is protected by Apple's security infrastructure.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. Your worship data, location, and preferences remain entirely private.
Third-Party Services
Hilal may use the following third-party services:
- Apple CloudKit: For optional sync across your devices (subject to Apple's privacy policy)
- Prayer Time APIs: Anonymous coordinate-based requests may be made to calculate prayer times. No personally identifiable information is transmitted.
Notifications
Hilal sends local notifications for prayer times, Suhoor alarms, and Iftar alerts. These notifications are generated entirely on-device and do not involve external push notification services. You can customize or disable all notifications in the app settings.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access all your data (stored locally on your device)
- Delete all app data by uninstalling the app or clearing app data
- Disable location access at any time through your device settings
- Opt out of all notifications
Children's Privacy
Hilal does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is suitable for all ages and does not require account creation or personal data submission.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
